Dr Melissa Barry

Clinical Psychologist specialising in trauma, attachment and EMDR therapy

For adults and older adolescents experiencing anxiety, overwhelm or patterns that don’t seem to shift.

You might be here because...

On the surface, things may look as though they are working.

You may be managing day to day life, keeping things going, and functioning in a way that others wouldn’t necessarily question. But underneath, it can feel quite different.

You might notice anxiety that is hard to switch off, a sense of overwhelm, or patterns in relationships that seem to repeat despite your efforts to change them.

For some, there is a sense that earlier experiences may still be having an impact. You may also identify as neurodivergent (for example ADHD or autism), and feel exhausted from years of adapting or masking.

Therapy offers a space to begin making sense of these experiences in a way that feels thoughtful, steady, and manageable.

What therapy can be helpful for

I support people who are experiencing:

  • anxiety, chronic stress or difficulty switching off

  • feeling overwhelmed or close to burnout

  • repeating patterns in relationships

  • the impact of childhood or relational trauma

  • low self-worth or a strong inner critic

  • feeling disconnected, numb, or emotionally stuck

  • the effects of masking or long-term adaptation (including for those who are neurodivergent)

How I work

My work is grounded in an attachment-informed and trauma-focused approach, integrating EMDR therapy where appropriate.

This means we focus not only on what is happening in the present, but also on understanding how your system has adapted over time. Many patterns that feel difficult now often began as ways of coping or protecting yourself earlier in life.

Therapy offers a space to understand these patterns more clearly and to begin to work with them in a way that feels manageable and supported.

I work with adults and older adolescents and also support individuals who identify as neurodivergent, including ADHD and autism.
