Are you seeking support to be a better parent?
Parent Clinic
Being a parent/caregiver can sometimes feel very challenging, especially if your child is experiencing difficulties. As a parent, you may be left wondering whether you are getting it right and finding it hard to navigate your way through all of the demands and emotions. This can be made even more difficult by the pressures of modern living, and constant comparisons, leaving it feeling hard to live up to other people’s expectations.
Could therapy help?
You might be hoping to feel more attuned to your child and understand some of the big feelings going on behind their behaviour. Perhaps you are striving to be more aware of your emotional state when in conflict with your child and want to feel more like you are “responding” and not “reacting” to your child’s needs. You may be wanting to set age appropriate boundaries and expectations with your child. Sometimes a bit of extra support may be needed to help find the confidence and get back in touch with being the parent that is aligned with your values.
Evidence-based advice
I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to think through some of the challenges that you are experiencing and provide some practical advice in how to support your child through their difficulties.
It may be that you are wanting to strengthen your relationship with your child and think about how you are communicating with each other. We may also think about how you are taking care of your own needs and how to self-regulate your emotions in a healthy manner so that you can have space for your child’s big feelings.
Through our work together I can guide you in techniques to support the development of qualities that you would like to see in your child through compassionate parenting and consistent boundaries, that takes into account their stage of development and cognitive level of your child.
Getting support
I am very experienced in offering parenting support in the management of emotional and behavioural difficulties, having previously worked across Early Years, primary and secondary school settings, offering parent consultations and delivering evidence-based parenting groups. I can also offer support in thinking about developmental issues, such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum conditions.
The number of sessions needed can vary depending on both the complexity of the issue and client need, however, typical treatment courses range between 6-16 sessions. Following our initial assessment, an intervention plan will be discussed with you.
